GSPC of NE Fall Field Trial

The GSPCA North Central Regional Classic, hosted by the GSPC of Nebraska, was held at Branched Oak Dog Trial Area in Raymond, NE. The Classic followed the GSPC of NE Spring Field Trail. Thanks to professional trainers Art Armbrust, Keith & Robbi Gulledge, Phil Mathiowetz and Josh Nieman for supporting this event. Also competing were amateurs Bruce Bryant, Alan Davison, Bob and Jan Erbe, Jim Juergens, Clark Linn, Larry Loftin, Brian Murphy, Michael Patrick, Ken Sanderson, Terry Siemers, Chase and Mark Verdoorn and Peter Wilkin. This was the first classic that took advantage of the one hour grand stakes.

The event started with a one hour Grand Amateur Limited Gun Dog judged by Jim Douglass and Ken Sanderson. The course started at the club house and followed the main course for 45 minutes figure eight, then across the wooden bridge and finished on the east course at the top of amateur hill. Providing that at least one entry made the entire one hour course, the following brace started at amateur hill and ran the course in reverse. The first brace gave us the winner, Chase Verdoorn’s snowy River Sambo Smokin. Sambo put on a show with multiple finds and a great forward race. Second place went to Badlands Grizzly Bear handled by Bruce Bryant in brace six. Brace one also gave us the third place dog, Murphy’s Cuttin Edge handled by Brian Murphy. Fourth place came out of brace five with Cuttin Wild’s Lil Angel handled by Mike Patrick. The stake came to a dramatic end after brace seven. A tornado warning was announced about 25 miles to the south west and moving in our direction. Everyone hurried back to their trailers to put up their animals and we completed with the retrieving call backs in record time. Those that could, left the grounds and approximately five inches of rain began to fall. Tornadoes were reported five miles to the east and five miles to the west. We were spared…..

Day two of the Classic presented a challenge on the course. The main course was in good shape on high ground, however we were unable to use the wooden bridge due to chest deep water on the course on the low ground. The 30 minute Derby Classic went off as planned with judges Jim Douglass and Jim Juergens. Bob Erbe’s fine young female, Erbes White Couger, earned top honors with a fast, forward race and multiple finds, at least one was a broke find. Couger had also earned first placed in the 2013 NC Derby Classic. Second place went to Misty Meadows Henry’s Hollywood, handled by Terry Siemers, third place to Prairie Wind BDK’s Dot on the Horizon handled by Robbi Gulledge and fourth to AK Uodihoff’s Little Jeanie, handled by Art Armbrust.

The Open Limited Gun Dog started on day two with a modified course due to the heavy rains and water on the course. Only the main course was useable. The stake was judged by Jim Juergens and Dave Taylor. The Gulledge’s took three of the four placements with their great string of dogs; First – CLK’s Point Me the Way, third – BDK’s Outbak Cutter and Fourth – Texas Bushwacking Bud. Larry Loftin earned second place with Hanshaw’s Widowmaker.

Only two placements were given out in the 45 minute Open Limited All-Age judged by Bob Erbe and Clark Linn. First went to BDK’s Chloe’s Jax of All Trades handled by Keith Gulledge and second to CLK’s Fearsome Forecast handled by Jim Juergens.
